How we verify

A licence number alone means less than you'd think

Here's the actual process behind the verified badge on every listing — not a black box.

1. State licence register

Every company here starts as a real licence pulled straight from that state's own contractor licensing board — Texas's TDLR, California's CSLB, and the equivalent board in every other state we cover. That confirms someone's legally allowed to do the work.

2. Cross-checked wherever the register alone isn't enough

Some states' own registers already carry a real phone number and address. Where one doesn't — Texas's TDLR list is the clearest example — we cross-check it against a second, independent register (state sales-tax filings), matched on county, since business names repeat (Texas alone has eight separately licensed "Mendoza HVAC" firms).

3. Badge only once we're confident

No confident match, no verified badge. A listing only carries it once the licence is matched to the right business in the right place.

4. What "verified" doesn't mean

We don't inspect anyone's workmanship — verified means the licence checks out, not a guarantee of the job. Ask any contractor for their number directly and check it yourself against your own state's board — it takes about thirty seconds.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is AirProHQ free to use?

Yes — AirProHQ is always free for homeowners. There's no sign-up, no account and no fee to search the directory or contact a contractor.

What does the "verified" badge actually mean?

It means the licence number checks out. We pull it from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation register, then cross-check it against a second independent register (state sales-tax filings), matched on county — only when both agree does a listing get the badge. It isn't a workmanship guarantee; see our hiring checklist for what else to ask before you book.

How many contractors and cities does AirProHQ cover?

AirProHQ currently lists 15301 contractors across 603 cities, and we're adding more every month.

Where does AirProHQ's contractor data come from?

Every listing starts as a licence pulled from a public state register, then cross-checked against a second independent register to confirm it's matched to the right business. This is about verifying a contractor's identity and licence — not aggregating star ratings or reviews.
